Marriage Register

Be it marriage or marriage in Bengali, shadi in Urdu and nikah in Persian, when two men and women are socially and stately allowed to live together, it is called marriage or marriage. As many religions as there are in the world, all those religions have advocated marriage for men and women to live together. The practice of fulfilling the physical and mental needs of two men and women is not only in our country but also in the whole world.

Benefits of marriage registration 

Marriage certificate is basically registration. Registration is a permit for two men and women to live together. Marriage registration is required to verify two persons at any time. Marriage registration for proof in various government sectors.

What is required for marriage registration?

  • Details about the profession of both the bride and groom including their full names, nicknames

  • A place for performing marriage ceremonies, or a church where marriages can be performed according to the Christian faith. 

Marriages of Hindus are required for registration 

Marriage registration is not required or compulsory where Hindu custom, practice or law exists. But since marriage is a sensitive subject, there must be state laws here. But in the case of Hindus, if there is no marriage registration, there is no legal problem. According to the law then they will be married.

How much is the marriage registration fee? 

Many people make a mistake thinking that the cost of the cabin is the cost of the wedding. But that is not the main cost. The cost of marriage is what is charged by the government as a registration fee. Usually the officiant collects the registration fee and performs the following functions. 

According to the government rules, 12.50% of the amount paid as mortgage has to be collected for registration. This rule will come into effect when the dowry is a maximum of Rs.4 lakhs. Any more than this will continue to increase by Rs 100 for every Rs 1 lakh increase. 

Moreover, no matter how much you decide to deposit, a minimum registration fee of Tk 200 will be charged from you. And all these expenses will be borne by the husband himself. In this case the girl or the girl's party is not involved with the said expenses.

Rules for Online Marriage Registration 

Registration after marriage is mandatory as per Bangladeshi law. However, each religion has different registration rules. However, many people do not take the matter of registration after marriage lightly in the state legal way, as a result of which they have to face many kinds of problems later.

Rules for verifying marriage registration online 

When the registration is done, the first question that comes to mind is whether the registration has been completed or not. And for that registration verification is required. Legally, marriage registration and marriage registration verification in Bangladesh can be done online, but to be honest, the process has not yet started effectively, due to which marriage registration cannot be done online now.

Marriage Registration Act 

If sensitive matters such as marriages are not registered by the state, many irregularities and unethical activities may take place in the sector and that is why according to the 1974 Act for Muslims in Bangladesh every marriage must be registered by a government-appointed Kazi.

Only one person is licensed to operate in an area. So before marriage, you must check who is the licensed Kazi in your area, and perform the marriage ceremony from him. 

It has already been stated that marriage registration is not compulsory in Hinduism, but in 2006 the High Court of India enacted the Hindu Marriage Registration Act and in 2013 the Hindu Marriage Rules were amended. Now the said marriage will be considered valid only after registration. 

On the other hand, the Marriage Act for Christians was enacted in 1872. Marriage registration is mandatory for all Christian citizens of Bangladesh. The same rules apply to all Christians not only in Bangladesh but all over the world. 

Punishment for cheating on marriage

The law also states that if a person commits fraud in matrimonial matters, the person shall be punished with imprisonment for any term which may extend to 10 years. And besides that will be fined.

1) How do I know whether the marriage has been registered or not? 

=> You SMS the letter M to 32551 followed by your ID number Example: (M 5001010050080). In the return sms you can confirm your marital status and marriage date. 

2) Is court marriage legal in Bangladesh?

=> Bangladesh court marriages are valid under the Marriage Registration Act of 1872, which came into force in April 2012. Foreigners and Bangladeshis can register their marriage under this Marriage Act.

3) How long does it take to complete the marriage registration?

=> After marriage or within 30 days you have to confirm your marriage registration. Within 2 to 3 months you can collect your marriage registration certificate.
